For each product there is at least one basic size, and in many cases more than one. In addition, almost every item is offered in a variety of materials, finishes and colors. As we have grown, we have found that both our retail and our trade customers require a much greater degree of customization. Every project has particular requirements and because of the true hand made nature of THE FEDERALIST products, we are able to fulfill these needs. Each request is studied for its viability, in terms of whether the changes requested are feasible and how much time and effort is involved. These factors must be related to cost and then the customer made aware of what their requested changes will translate to in terms of price. If at any time we feel that the project is simply not what we believe will be in the best interests first of the customer and second of THE FEDERALIST, we make this very clear. Years of experience have taught us what can and cannot be done and what will work and cannot work. Each custom project is treated as a Special Order and a great deal of time is expended to make sure that the final result is exactly what the customer had envisioned from the beginning. Unfortunately, some have difficulty envisioning the final product. This is particularly true of furniture and so in many cases THE FEDERALIST produces a drawing for the customer's review. We want to make sure that there have been no misunderstandings on anyone's part. These projects have always been very successful and allow THE FEDERALIST to expand our collections. It also offers the customer the opportunity for very special items which fulfill specific needs. There are some categories where the basic nature of the product requires customization. This is particularly true of the large assortment of hand made and hand finished beds we offer. The customer can customize size, wood, color, headboard and rail height to accommodate boxspring size, mattress size and the requested height of the top of the mattress from the floor. Posts can be heightened, shortened, special posts designed, rail sizes changed, custom testors designed and special stain and/or paint colors chosen. All of these choices result in a totally customized bed. In addition to the customization of THE FEDERALIST collections, special projects of an architectural nature are possible. Wall paneling using 100-year-old antique pine are part of our offerings, as well as custom cabinetry to fit particular spaces and circumstances. As always, each project is looked at critically and the customer is made a part of every facet of the project.
